House Removals in towns near Reading, RG1
Places of interest in Reading, RG1
Reading (pronounced /Ë?rÉ?dɪÅ?/ (listen) RED-ing) is a large town in England, located at the confluence of the River Thames and River Kennet, and on both the Great Western Main Line railway and the M4 motorway, some 40 miles (64 km) west of London. For ceremonial purposes it is in the Royal County of Berkshire and has served as the county town since 1867.
In 1872, the original small mediaeval church was rebuilt by James Piers St Aubyn in Early English style retaining only the 13th century aisle walls and Perpendicular style west tower. A new ashlar steeple was added in 1873. The exterior of the church is faced in flint and the roof is tiled. The church is a Grade II listed building.[1][5]
In later years the funds left by Kendrick were mismanaged and subject to legal challenge. In the 1870s this was resolved, and the remaining bequest used to found Kendrick Girls School, along with the Kendrick Boys School that was later to merge with Reading School. An oil painting of John Kendrick, rescued from the Oracle workhouse, hangs in the hall of Kendrick Girls School. The caption reads "John Kendrick, founder of this workhouse".[1]
Ticket barriers were installed in the late 1990s.
Chesham Bois (traditionally pronounced chess-am boyz, after the nearby River Chess, but now more commonly pronounced chesh-am boyz) is a village in Buckinghamshire, England, adjacent to both Amersham and Chesham.
