Seven Sisters station is referenced in the song 'Seven Sisters Road' by UK rock band Alien Stash Tin, and included on the bands 2007 eponymous album. The track was also issued as a single a year before.
It is currently classed as one of the more deprived areas in London[1] and qualifies for the higher Stamp Duty threshold.[2]
After the 1921 Railways Act created the Big Four railway companies the line was, from 1923, part of the London & North Eastern Railway (LNER). The section of the High Barnet branch north of East Finchley was incorporated into the London Underground network through the "Northern Heights" project begun in the late 1930s. High Barnet station was first served by Northern Line trains on 14 April 1940[3] and, after a period where the station was serviced by both operators, LNER services ended in 1941.[2] The station still retains much of its original Victorian architectural character today.
The area surrounding the station is mainly residential, though there is a parade of shops just outside, as well as local play- and infant schools. The station is not particularly well attended, with the ticket office often closed, due to the low usage of the station, situated as it is in a relatively wealthy middle-class area, where most people prefer to use their own transport.[citation needed] In the rush hour the station has fairly good usage.
