House Removals in towns near Stamford Hill, N15
Places of interest in Stamford Hill, N15
It was never well used, mainly as it was near South Tottenham and Seven Sisters stations, the latter gave a much faster link to The City. The station was closed on 9 August 1942 as a wartime austerity measure and never reopened. The station building survives, used by a newsagent which is a Transport for London (TfL) ticketstop, so it is possible since the line become part of the London Overground run by TfL in 2007 to buy tickets in the station for passing trains which no longer stop there.
South Tottenham occupies parts of the N15 and N17 postal districts. It is bordered in the south by Stamford Hill, the west by Harringay and West Green, the north by Tottenham, and the east by the Lee Valley Reservoirs.
London Buses routes 41, 73, 76, 123, 149 (24-hour service), 230, 243 (24-hour service), 259, 279, 318, 349, 476, W4, N41, N73, N76 and N279 serve the station or pass close by.
The GN&CR was intended to carry main line trains and the tunnels were constructed with a larger diameter (16 ft/4.9 m) than the other deep tube railways being built at that time (roughly 11 to 12 ft/3.4 m to 3.7 m). From 1913 the MR took control of the GN&CR and ran it under its own name until it became part of the London Passenger Transport Board (LPTB) in 1933. In preparation for the LPTB's "Northern Heights" plan the line was transferred to the control of the Morden-Edgware Line (now the Northern Line).
The station building remained until the 1960s, when all but the structure immediately around the original lift shaft was demolished.[1] Today little remains to indicate the site of the former station. At track level the short station tunnels remain visible from trains passing through.
