Barkingside tube station

As part of the 1935 - 1940 "New Works Programme" of the London Passenger Transport Board the majority of the loop was to be transferred to form the eastern extensions of the Central Line. Although work commenced in 1938 it was suspended upon the outbreak of the Second World War in 1939 and work only recommenced in 1946. Steam train services serving Barkingside were suspended on 29 November 1947 and electrified Central line passenger services, to Central London via Gants Hill, finally commenced on 31 May 1948. The line from Newbury Park to Hainault through Barkingside had been electrified for empty train movements to the new depot at Hainault from 14 December 1947.

Gants Hill tube station

The station, like many others on the same branch, was designed by notable Tube architect Charles Holden; during the planning period London Underground advised on the construction of the new Moscow Metro, which is why the barrel-vaulted halls of Gants Hill echo many stations on the Russian capital's system.[2][3]

Green Street, London

Near Upton Park tube station, the road becomes a regional centre for retail in food, jewellery, fabrics and the location of Queens Road Market. The road has an array of shops specialising in primarily Pakistani goods, catering to those with strong cultural and familial ties to Pakistan. The street has a smaller yet prominent Afro-Caribbean community culture, reflected in its several food stores specialising in Caribbean and African foods.

Boleyn Ground

Throughout 2006, talk was rife of West Ham moving to the Olympic Stadium of the 2012 Olympics, with speculation increasing after new club chairman Eggert Magnusson confirmed he was interested in a move there. However, talks broke down between the club and the Olympic Committee after it was announced that the Stadium would be reduced to 25,000 all seater after the Olympic Games, which is over 10,000 less than the Boleyn Ground's current capacity, and that the stadium would be keeping its running track, leaving supporters further away from the pitch and killing the atmosphere within the stadium on matchday. Recent rumours have suggested that West Ham could move to a new stadium located at the Parcelforce depot near to West Ham Underground/mainline station. On 7 November 2007 London mayor, Ken Livingstone announced that a new site had been identified for West Ham to build a new stadium. [3] On 23 March 2010, the club announced they were working on a joint bid with Newham London Borough Council to move into the Olympic stadium.[4] In November 2010 West Ham United commenced a search for potential developers for informal discussions about what would happen to the ground if it wins its bid to take over the Olympic Stadium after the 2012 Games. According to the club, the site could be vacated and open to redevelopment by the summer of 2014. [5]
